How to stay warm without turning on the furnace
Wednesday, October 17th, 2007Why aren’t children the cheapest members of the family?
Saturday, September 29th, 2007Catherine is the cheapest member of our family, unless you count David (right now his only costs are what it takes to feed me, and my pills). We’ve bought very few clothes for her since people give us so many clothes – friends, family, strangers. (more…)

Catholic Motherhood book collaboration idea
Friday, September 21st, 2007Please email Corinne at corinne_book@dashjr.org if you can help with the following more than praying:
I was reading Sheila Kitzinger’s book “The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth” this morning when I realized how offensive parts of it are to us. I am writing to ask for your prayers and any other help you can give me so that we can publish a pregnancy and childbirth book written by and for Catholic mothers.
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Thursday, August 16th, 2007This is from St. Alphonsus de Liguori’s book, “The Glories of Mary”. It has an imprimatur and nihil obstat, and this Saint is a great Doctor of the Church. (I started typing it on the Feast of the Assumption in 2007, August 15, but did not finish this entry until August 16.)

Story from an old calendar, and a new friend
Friday, May 11th, 2007This is from Saturday 31 and June 1, on my old “Small Miracles” desk calendar:
Lillian was an energetic young woman who loved driving long distances, did not tire easily, and relished any opportunity to do a good deed.
She once drove two young servicemen to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, from her hometown of New Castle, Pennsylvania. After she dropped the man on base, she started back home.

Prayer to Obtain a Conversion
Sunday, October 8th, 2006Prayer to Obtain a Conversion
O Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, who merited to be called “just” by the Holy Ghost, I urgently recommend to thee the soul of (Name), which Jesus redeemed at the price of His Precious Blood.
Thou knowest how deplorable is the state and how unhappy the life of those who have banished this loving Saviour from their hearts, and how greatly they are exposed to the danger of losing Him eternally. Permit not, I beseech thee, that a soul so dear to me should continue any longer in its evil ways; preserve it from the danger that threatens it; touch the heart of this prodigal child and conduct him back to the bosom of the fondest of fathers. Abandon not him, I implore thee, till thou hast opened to him the gates of the heavenly city, where he will praise and bless thee throughout eternity for the happiness which he will owe to thy powerful intercession. Amen.
MAMAMANANAMA!
Sunday, August 6th, 2006Catherine likes to YELL! She stands on the couch against the arm and yells at me here at my computer. She is 10 months old now (Wow!!), crawling, and standing up on everything she can find. She has had her fair share of falls, and then some. (Don’t tell Grandma!) I am proud to say that she has not had a single pacifier or bottle. I have gone swimming with her a few times in the apartment complex pool, and now this lucky baby actually has swimming diapers to swim in, thanks to Great-Grandma Schomburg. So far Papa has been successful in keeping her away from the new server long enough so that she doesn’t manage to turn it off.
I recommend to all parents the book “The Family Bed” by Tine Thenevin. It is a few decades old but its wisdom is timeless. If all parents who sleep separately from their babies read it, the world could be a happier place. It discusses the safety of sleeping with your baby, how it is a good way of bonding with adopted children, shares neat and sometimes tender stories (and sometimes heartbreaking!) of parents and their children, and much more.
We are still waiting for a godfather for Catherine. Please pray!
Luke has news that he will post when he is ready.
I am reading “Brave New World” by Alduous Huxley and strangely enough, enjoying it. I hope I find our friend’s copy of “Animal Farm” before he comes over again…I haven’t seen any torn pages around, so that means Catherine hasn’t got to it. A good book I’m reading is “The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised As Freedom” by David Kupelian. I like that last name! I learned that Judge Blackmun, the Supreme Court judge who changed our country’s laws on abortion and caused the brutal murders of more than forty million people, had a daughter named Sally who became pregnant in college about seven years before Roe v. Wade. As you might guess, when Judge Blackman asked his wife and daughters about Roe v. Wade, she was favorable to abortion! She ended up having a miscarriage and the short marriage to the father of the baby dissolved.
